At some point during your educational career there’s a good chance that you will be on the lookout for the secrets of great thesis writing. The strange thing about it is that you probably already heard everything you need to know about developing an effective thesis writing strategy that will help you succeed. At the same time, because they’re so simple many people overlook how important these factors really are. Here’s a closer look at a few secrets of great thesis writing and how they can impact your overall material.

One of the most important things to focus on is the quality of your research. In the end, if you don’t have a strong foundation of research then it is nearly impossible to achieve great thesis writing. A lot of people make the mistake of simply jumping online and reading everything that they can about their particular subject. The problem is that the majority of this information is not necessarily from an authoritative source and in some cases is flat out wrong. To avoid this from happening is important to take your research to the next step and double check all of your data before you start writing.

Another thing that will help out tremendously is focusing on a topic area that you have a very strong interest in. It is surprising how many people will choose topics that appeared easy, but end up writing very poorly. The reason for this is that while the content itself could be simple to grasp and even articulate, that doesn’t mean that it will guarantee a strong end result. By choosing a topic you are already deeply interested in, you can be sure that you will be able to carry a strong effort throughout the entire paper. Another thing to keep in mind is that great thesis writing takes time. If you choose a topic that you don’t really have any interest in, then you will end up getting bored and frustrated. Neither of which will increase your chances of a successful result.

The final secret of great thesis writing is getting past the fear of change. Even after you’ve completed all of your research and have your basic outline completed, there’s a good chance that the details of what you actually write will be completely different than what you planned on. This is because as you write your thought process and understanding will continually evolve. Ideally, you will end up bearing the year where you started in terms of the conclusions that you draw. At the same time, if this doesn’t happen you can be afraid to make the changes that are necessary to have a comprehensive final project. If you don’t make these changes, then the end result will appear muddied and convoluted.

While many people are disappointed when they find out what the secrets of great thesis writing are little more than sound, fundamental writing techniques, that doesn’t mean that they still don’t hold true. In order to achieve great writing it all starts with a great thought process. Without it, developing a successful, coherent result is impossible.

If you are looking for ways to simplify your thesis writing then you’re in luck. As with most time intensive projects the key to success is primarily in the preparation. When it comes to thesis writing there are a number of things that you can do before you ever sit down and start typing that can dramatically improve and streamline the entire process. Here’s a closer look at a few ways to simplify your thesis writing and make the entire experience much less stressful and more enjoyable.

The very first step to simplifying your thesis writing is choosing the right topic. You’re going to spend a lot of time on this project so it is critical that you choose a topic which appeals to you. This is even true if your particular interests seem like they will be more difficult to write about. Take a moment and think about the amount of research that you will need to do before you ever start writing – it could be days or even weeks. Now ask yourself whether you would prefer to spend your time researching less about something that is completely boring or a little more time researching something that you actually enjoy and are interested in. Not only will choosing the right topic make your thesis writing easier, but it will also ensure that your research is much more thorough and well founded.

Once you’ve completed your research the next step to simplify your thesis writing is to create an outline. Most people will create a very bare-bones outline which will contain little more than general thoughts and how they will be organized. If you really want to streamline the entire process that you need to create your outline in several different stages. You can start with the bare-bones outline, but then you need to move on and add additional layers of details to each sub point. By doing this you will already created a much larger amount of content. As an added bonus, by adding in this additional detail it will have also forced you to think about your topic a little bit more critically and analytically. In the end, this additional analysis and forethought will save you a lot of time throughout the writing process.

The final trick to simplify your thesis writing is to give yourself enough time to actually do it. No matter how much or how little you intend to write there’s a good chance that you will reach a point where you simply don’t want to write anymore. This could be because you need a break or it could be the case you get writer’s block. Either way as long as you built-in additional time this won’t be a problem. Nothing makes your thesis writing more difficult than feeling stressed and under the gun.

While there are a number of additional tips and tricks that can utilize based upon your own personal preferences these three will work for absolutely everyone. Make sure the you choose a topic that interests you; prepare a structured, detailed outline; and always provide yourself with some additional time so that you can take a break whenever you need to and still not end up under the gun.

You may also want to consider using thesis writing software to keep your thoughts and writing organized.

When it comes to submitting your thesis, you want everything to be perfect. For a lot of students, that means seeking additional help from a professional or using thesis writing tools to create a memorable document. When you search for thesis writing services online, you’ll be greeted with hundreds if not thousands, of websites that purport to write your thesis for a price. But if you opt for this option, you’re not actually learning anything. It is better to take advantage of thesis writing software if you’re not confident about your writing abilities.

Writing that all-important thesis is not easy. In fact, it is quite stressful for majority of students. That doesn’t mean you should be overwhelmed by the task. Thesis writing can become easier once you have a clear idea of what you want to focus on. Meanwhile, the thesis writing software can fix your report and make it easy to insert citations.

One important aspect you need to look into in a thesis writing software is the kind of formats it supports. Most professors ask students to use the APA and MLA format. Ideally though, the software should support other formats just in case your professor requests it. Besides the citation aspect of the thesis, this software tool also helps you plan the report better. Finishing the final draft also becomes a lot less challenging.

As if that’s not enough, thesis writing software also has an often overlooked benefit. Yes, it saves students a lot of time and effort. It is particularly helpful for students with busy schedules with work or other commitments. Instead of submitting a rushed thesis, they can instead prepare a well-written report that makes the grade. So having discussed the advantages of thesis writing software, what particular provider should you go for exactly?

There are actually several good thesis writing software out there but there are also others that simply don’t have the kind of functionality most students require. Instead of giving you a list though, we’ll outline some features you need to look for.

• Grammar Checker – having an intelligent thesis is not enough, your grammar should be perfect as well. Let’s face it, anyone can commit a typo here are there. The important thing is to correct these mistakes before submission.

• Style Checker – some thesis writing software have sophisticated features such as the style checker. It alerts you when informal language is used in the document. This function also gives alternative phrasing and words to some of the content.

• Dictionary-Thesaurus – it would be such a hassle to go back and forth if you need to use a dictionary or a thesaurus. In the course of writing the thesis, a lot of students have had to find out the synonym or antonym of certain words.

One additional feature is the letter or document template. Some thesis writing software has this function. It may or may not be used for thesis writing but is nevertheless useful to have especially if you need to write letters or documents on a regular basis.

Read thesis software reviews to learn more about the software packages available.

Grammarly is an all in one proofreader and personal grammar coach. The software is designed to help you not only check your work for grammar and spelling errors, but also to help you improve you grammar by boosting your vocabulary. Additionally, Grammarly will automatically check all of your text for any possible plagiarism.

With over 4.3 million documents reviewed and improved, Grammarly is fast becoming a leading authority when it comes to online help with grammar. The company boasts 150,000 plus students in its data base and it is recommended by hundreds of Universities and colleges across the country.

The major benefits of the software are:

• Grammar Checks: Grammarly will check your text and show you grammatical errors that you never even knew about. With over 150 different grammar checks, there is no stone left unturned with your text and best of all, the software explains to you why the rule is the way it is. This not only fixes the immediate problem, but it also helps you learn a new rule that you may have not known about before so you can avoid making the same grammatical error in the future.
• Plagiarism Detection: Sometimes you can plagiarize and not mean to do so. However, this will not keep you out of trouble should you get caught plagiarizing. If you do get labeled as a plagiarist then a good amount of work can be all for not and an automatic failing grade will often follow. With Grammarly you will know about such plagiarism before it has a chance to get you in trouble as the software will point it out. However, you can keep the text as Grammarly will allow you the opportunity to automatically site the source thus saving you any unwanted attention and allowing you to give credit where credit is due.
• Vocabulary Enhancement: Grammarly will also make suggestions throughout your text as to which words can be replaced with more powerful words. This will help you to capture the reader’s interest and make your paper read more eloquently.
• Contextual Spell Check: No more of those typos like meat when you mean meet or then when you mean than. With Grammarly this is always checked for which is a nice plus that a regular spell checker just doesn’t offer.

Grammarly offers phone support and e-mail support so if something does happen along the way and you need help, it is easily accessible. The only drawback to the support is that they operate on banker’s hours and are only available from 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday, but they do in fact have phone support. Many online grammar and spelling checkers can’t say that.

When you are writing an important paper you want it to come out as well versed as possible. You can hire a writing coach to help you do this as well as hire an editor to make sure everything comes out properly or you can check into Grammarly and see for yourself the power of having all of this at your fingertips. Learn more about Grammarly.

Presenting a well written thesis depends on many important issues, here we will discuss the basics that University Students can examine and emulate, and possibly earn appreciation from the faculty that will evaluate the papers.

First examine the kind of thesis that is to be presented.

a)	A thesis which is analytical in nature and one which is split into different parts the partitioned content which is explored and researched is then presented to the audience.

b)	A thesis which is expository (explanatory) in nature or a study which is made known in detail to the audience

c)	A thesis which is argumentative in its format, and with supportive evidence claims are presented in a manner through which the audience is sought to be convinced. The theme of the papers is in anticipation that the audience is in total agreement with the writer of the thesis.

If the thesis is not in line with any of the above and is just narrative, the writer will need to precisely mention the modalities of the thesis in the first paragraph, this will help the reader in knowing what the thesis is all about.

The content in the thesis should be very precise and specific, ensuring that the thesis relates to the topic mentioned with evidence in support of claims.

The statement of the thesis is usually mentioned at the end of the first paragraph in the page, very often as you write, the topic of the thesis may change and these changes should also reflect in the statement of the thesis.

Some Examples of Thesis statements

A Statement of an Analytical Thesis

An analysis of the politicians in the election fray reveals one challenge facing the electorate: voting for inexperienced candidates or the ones who are experienced but corrupt.

The following paper would read as:

o	explain the analysis of the elections which are to be held o	explain the challenges faced by voters A Statement of an expository (explanatory) thesis statement

The politicians visit the villages only during elections; the rest of the time is spent on manipulation and deceit.

The following paper in the thesis would read as

o	explain when politicians visit the villages from where they were elected.

A Statement of an argumentative thesis

Politicians should regularly visit the towns and villages from where they were elected to know the difficulties faced by common people.

The following paper in the thesis would read as

o	present an argument with evidence to support the claim that politicians do not serve the electorate that elects them

Towards the end of your studies you will be required to write probably the most important paper of your life; your thesis paper. A well written and thought provoking thesis paper is vital to your success both in graduating and thereafter.

What is important to remember about your thesis paper is that it is going to go in front of some great minds in the form of a grading or judging committee and because of this you need to be sure that your thesis paper is the best that it can be. Before you can even dive into your thesis you have to prepare and submit a thesis proposal. This will be much shorter that your actual thesis paper and will give the committee a general overview of what you are going to write about.

Once you have received the go ahead with your thesis paper you must be sure that you will be putting it together containing all the proper elements in order to ensure its success. This begins with how you will piece your thesis paper together.

As a general guideline all thesis papers should contain:

• Title Page
• Abstract
• Table of Contents
• List of Figures
• List of Tables
• Introduction
• Methods
• Results
• Discussion
• Conclusions
• Recommendations
• Acknowledgments
• References
• Appendices

Depending on your subject and any specific rules that dictate how your thesis paper should be put together, this method is typically the norm.

Once you know what is to go into your thesis paper you must determine what style will be required. This is often referred to as a ‘house style’ and may vary from University to University. In addition to the house style there may also be a field specific standard that you must also adhere to for the presentation of your thesis paper. This is generally seen as ‘ISO’ followed by numbers and to ensure proper structure you need to first find out what that structure is.

You should also be sure to check into all of the little mundane details as well. For example, does the committee want you to use Roman Numerals or regular numbers? What size paper and what color are expected? These may seem like insignificant details. But they can add up to mean quite a bit.

When you get right down to it you need to be sure that your thesis paper is not only written well, but you have to also be sure that it is written in the style that is expected. If you submit a thesis paper that is not of the correct format and style it doesn’t matter how well written it is because it will probably be rejected and thus never read.

You have put a tremendous amount of time and effort into your schooling and your thesis paper represents a culmination of that. To ensure you have the best chance at thesis paper success you need to take your time and be sure that your thesis paper is going to be exactly what the committee is looking for.

The key to writing a successful thesis paper is to first get your subject approved and this begins with the thesis proposal. A thesis proposal is basically an outline of what you ‘propose’ your thesis to be about. There are some institutions that want you to conduct an oral proposal, but most thesis proposals will come in the form a written format.

It is extremely important to be sure that your thesis proposal is well written and submitted in the proper format because it will go in front of a thesis committee that will be made up of some of the sharpest minds known to man. The idea behind your thesis proposal is to sort of wet the appetites of the thesis committee so that they approve your subject and you can then get to work writing your actual thesis paper.

With a thesis proposal there are 13 basic sections that should be included. Before you ever get to the first section you will want to come up with a strong title for your thesis proposal. Make it something that will reach out and grab the attention of the thesis committee and make them want to read the entire proposal.

The 13 sections of your thesis proposal break down as follows:

1. Introduction: The introduction should capture or peak the interest of the reader. The best methods for this section are to write it last after you see how the rest of the proposal will shape up.
2. Problem Statement: This is simply your research question that you will then restate in the form of a statement.
3. Background: This is your chance to prove to the readers that your problem statement is a worthwhile endeavor. Use examples here and be sure to cite your sources.
4. Purpose: What is the purpose of your study? In this section you will need to address an analysis, a change, or an interpretation of your problem.
5. Significance: Focus on the benefits that will be derived from your study in this section instead of the problem itself. This is the section that answers the question of why you are doing this research.
6. Methodology: Find three methodologies that will be fitting for you to use in your thesis paper and go over all of your possible points of view.
7. Literature Review: If there has been any other studies conducted or books and papers written in regards to your thesis then give a general overview of them.
8. Hypothesis: What do you expect to achieve as a result of this study? In this section you should be focusing on what you think you will find out and not how you think you will find it out.
9. Definition of Terms: Some terms that you use in the problem, purpose, and methodology sections may be unclear or confusing to the reader. If you feel that there is any chance that a word or term will not be clear then this is the section that you will address such concerns by listing synonyms and descriptions so that the reader gets a clear understanding of what you are talking about.
10. Assumptions: How do you feel about the subject of your thesis? Make your feelings and your beliefs in regards to the subject matter known in this section.
11. Scope and Limitations: What are the limitations both practical and abstract in regards to your study? List all your answers and then tell how far off they are from your own expectations.
12. Procedure: Go into in depth detail describing all the steps you will take in order to achieve or prove the overall goal of your thesis paper. Once this is complete, look it over and see if anyone could replicate the results by looking at this section. If the answer is no then you have to rework this section until the answer is yes.

Much of the difficulty arising from the thesis-writing exercise is psychological rather than technical. To finish your master thesis, you shouldn’t only have the right topic, adviser, method, equipment, reading materials, etc. It is much more important to have the right attitude. Think about it; solutions to technical problems can be found in many books, but if you don’t have the will, the inclination or the patience to look for them, they won’t do you much good. Here are some tips that can help you put yourself in the right frame of mind for thesis writing.

Get Organized

You probably know the old saying, “It’s easy to lose sight of the forest for the trees.” This applies in thesis writing. You can become so caught up in individual tasks (e.g. reading all the materials you can find on your topic, interviewing subjects for your case studies, drafting and redrafting your proposal, etc) that you might lose sight of the fact that you do have a deadline, and that it’s the complete output – not the individual steps or efforts (however superb or impressive) – that will be evaluated and graded. You should really get yourself organized.

First, write down your ultimate goal: to finish your master thesis on time. Write down your target defense date so you’ll have a definite date to work towards. After that, list down all the things you need to do to achieve your goal (e.g. design research, gather data, look for applicable theories, choose an adviser, meet with adviser, pass the first draft, etc).

Next, arrange the tasks chronologically. The first tasks should be those things that you need to accomplish before you can move on to other tasks; for example, theoretical framework and research design typically come before data gathering. Subsequently, break down the tasks into specific steps. To find an applicable framework, you will have to do some research in the library. Once you have reduced all the tasks into a series of small steps, get your planner then list down all the individual steps according to their proper order.

The result of this exercise is a blueprint of your goal. Since your thesis work has been resolved into very specific and manageable tasks, you will not find the overall task – that of finishing your thesis – particularly overwhelming.

Make it a Daily Habit

The clearest and the most detailed master thesis plan will not help you if you don’t have the discipline to stick to it.

One good way to develop discipline is to set a definite “thesis schedule”. If you have nothing but your master thesis on your plate right now, treat it like you would a full-time job. Set the hours between 8-12 and 1-5 as thesis-writing periods, for example. Then, force yourself to start working on your thesis every 8 am without fail. Likewise, stop working by 5 pm. Stopping work on time will prevent exhaustion, deprivation, burn out and other negative attitudes and feelings from taking root; these can make you more unwilling to continue working on your thesis.

If, on the other hand, you have other things to do apart from your thesis, you should still set “thesis working days” or “thesis working hours” that will remain inviolate and be devoted entirely to your thesis.

By sticking to a strict schedule, you’ll soon acquire the “thesis habit” and treat your thesis as a fundamental part of your day. Once you reach this stage, you won’t start out each day by wrestling with the question “Do I or do I not work on my thesis today?” which is almost always followed by the decision, “Not now; I’ll start tomorrow.” Through organization and discipline, therefore, you’re assured of unwavering focus; you’ll be able to make a gradual but steady progress towards completing your Master thesis and getting your master’s degree.
